The Discord is primarily for facilitating and coordinating in-person gatherings, company projects, or following up with links to things. It isn’t a very chatty place, but it is a very helpful place, and is open to members and non-members alike.
To reduce distractions, most notifications on channels are turned off by default, with the exception of @mentions (like @everyone). If you’d like to keep up with things more incessantly, we recommend manually enabling all notifications for:

If you want everyone to see your message, make sure to @-mention them! (@everyone)
To adjust notifications on desktop, click on the notification bell icon within a channel:

Tap the bell icon

Select which kinds of messages you’d like to get notifications for.
On mobile, it takes a few more steps:

Tap on the name of the channel

At the top of that menu, there’ll be a notification bell icon.

From there, click into Notification Settings.
